Big Island Hawaii
Snorkeling Guide eBook

If You Only Snorkel The Popular Beaches
You Will Miss Most Of Best Spots

Big Island Hawaii Snorkeling GuideThis Big Island Snorkeling Guide eBook comes from our in the water experience, research, and our true love of the amazing underwater sights on this beautiful island. It is our favorite island in Hawaii, and the one we have spent the most time snorkeling.

The Big Island is just that, big. You could fit all of the other Hawaiian Islands inside it's borders. Driving times and distances are a real consideration for planning your snorkeling. Fortunately you don't need to waste any time on your trip trying to find good snorkeling spots. In this guide we have focused on getting you to the very best snorkeling locations with detailed and precise descriptions, instructions and hundreds of beautiful and helpful pictures and area maps.

Read more below for an extensive look into the guide.

All The Detailed Information You Want For Each Location
Most travel guides and websites only give you a terse sentence or two about what the snorkeling is like at a location or beach. That has always bothered us. When planning our trips we always want to know more. We want to know what the entrance into the water is like, where in the bay to swim, how exposed it is, how much coral is present, how much fish life, if there are commonly dangerous currents, not to mention good driving directions to the beach. We have you covered in our guide; we are snorkelers, who spend crazy amounts of time in the water. And if anything we may go a little overboard with specific descriptions and pictures of what a site is like and how to get there.

A Riches Of Pictures
Our Big Island Snorkeling Guide is full of beautiful color pictures. We include many underwater pictures, to help you get a sense for what a location is like and to get you excited and inspired for what you will see. Also included are pictures above water showing the beautiful beaches, as well as more boring pictures that are very useful to help you find a location, like pictures of road turnoffs and parking areas. In fact there are 283 pictures in the main guide, not including maps, and another 104 pictures in our fish guide, for a total of 387 pictures.

Save Money - Go From Shore
The vast majority of the best snorkeling spots on the Big Island are accessible from shore, although it may not seem that way from all the boat companies advertising. There are only a couple of spots that you need to take a boat to. This will save you a bundle and will make it so you can snorkel on your own schedule.

The Big Island has some extraordinary snorkeling spots that most people never see. You don't want to miss them. Wouldn't you love to see all the fish at this rarely snorkeled spot?

And see the amazing corals at this almost unknown location?

And explore this astounding healthy reef...

Big Island Hawaii Snorkeling Guide Reviews

"This is an extremely well-written, accurate and complete guide to snorkeling on the Big Island. We are both marine biologists who do research at several of the snorkeling spots in the book and we think this book is great. It provides excellent maps and pictures of the sites, making it easy to find them for the first time. Each site is described in such detail that you know the best and safest places to enter, where to snorkel for the best coral and fish, where to park, and all other necessary information. The chapters on safety and etiquette, snorkeling equipment tips, Big Island travel tips, and the Fish Identification Guide are also extremely useful. Anyone who wants to snorkel on the Big Island should definitely buy this book. And even for people very familiar with Big Island snorkeling, the book offered great information on many new sites for us to try. Especially in Hawaii, where snorkeling can sometimes be challenging, this book is absolutely essential. It is the only book we've ever seen that is truly written for snorkelers (not divers). And because of that, your snorkeling experience is fantastic. I just wish that Galen and Nicole had snorkeling books for more places!"
Cathy & Brian - April 2012

It's a fine, fine piece of work and please accept my congratulations. Super! You write about snorkeling in a way that's valid, easy to understand, and correct, not misleading as so many are. Your work is a real asset."
Tom Wallace, Aug 2011

Who are Galen & Nicole?

We are a married couple who loves snorkeling around the world.

But we think the information
available for snorkelers
kind of stinks.

So we decided to fix it, creating
the type of snorkeling guides
that we want for ourselves.

What Do You Get With Your Big Island Snorkeling Guide eBook?
The eBook is 192 pages long. We go into a great amount of detail for each snorkeling location. The rest of the eBook taps into our years of snorkeling and travel experience to help make your snorkel adventure better, from equipment tips, to an underwater photography guide, to a color fish identification guide.

Focused On The Best Spots, Not All Possible Spots
The Big Island Hawaii Snorkeling Guide is focused on getting you to the very best snorkeling spots every day of your trip. We describe 27 locations on the Big Island, many of which are beaches with two or three separate areas to snorkel that we describe.

What Do We Enjoy, And How Do We Evaluate A Location?
We like seeing these things while snorkeling:

  • Lots of fish
  • A healthy coral reef environment
  • Interesting topography
  • Clear water
  • Appropriate depths for snorkelers
  • Reasonably safe conditions and water entrance

In our guide we use a simple snorkel ranking system to help you choose a destination. Five snorkels is our highest ranking. To get five, a location has to have some of all of what we enjoy above.

We All Like Different Things
We know that not every snorkeler is focused on the same things as us. So as an alternative to our snorkel ranking, we also provide an itinerary section that groups locations based on popular interests, like what spots have the most fish or turtles.

For each location we:

  • Include a 1 to 5 snorkel ranking
  • Provide a description of what it is like above and below water
  • Tell you where the best entrance to the water is and what it is like with pictures
  • Tell you where to snorkel once you get in the water to see the best stuff
  • Give you a sense of what you might see, describing the sea life and creatures we have seen there
  • Describe detailed driving and parking directions
  • Include useful pictures of each location, above and below water, to give you a sense of what to expect.

Other Useful Chapters in the Big Island Snorkeling Guide

Want to print the Big Island Snorkeling Guide?
Included in this eBook is a completely unique way to both view it on your computer, and to print it in an economical way. At the end of the guide you will find the Easy Print Guide section (Chapter 16). Here we have condensed all of the Big Island specific information that you will want with you on your trip in a pure text format, in smaller text (better for reading printed), without any pictures or graphics. This will save you from wasting a bunch of printer ink and paper printing the entire guide. You can of course print the entire guide with pictures and graphics if you desire.

Take the Big Island Snorkeling Guide with you on your
iPad, Kindle or other portable device?

You can also take the entire guide with you on your trip digitally on a variety of portable electronic devices (although the formatting may not be perfect since this PDF is designed to be read on larger screens), including:

  • Apple iPad, iPhone and Some iPods
  • Android Tablets & Some Android Smartphones
  • Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook

Apple iPad, iPhone & iPods are not capable of downloading a PDF directly from the internet without a third party app installed like GoodReader. Unless you have GoodReader, you have to purchase the eBook on your main computer and transfer the file.

Netbooks, Laptops & Android Devices - You can purchase and download the the PDF eBook directly on your netbook, laptop or Android tablet or some smartphones, and read it with Adobe Reader or any Android PDF reader, or transfer it from your main computer.

Kindle - Do not purchase the eBook directly on your Kindle, it cannot download directly from the internet. Purchase the eBook from your main computer, and then transfer it to your Kindle (instructions inside the eBook).

Google Checkout Payment Problem with Portable Devices - Google Checkout when using portable devices has a bug where it will not forward the download email to you. If you are buying the eBook on a portable device, use Paypal, or purchase on your main computer. Or if Google Checkout is your only option email us after your purchase with your order number and we will respond with your download link.

Benefits of an eBook?

  • Instant Delivery - you can be reading minutes after your purchase, without leaving your house or paying shipping.
  • The Most Updated Information - with an eBook, you always get the most updated information we have available. Every time we find an error or we get improvement suggestions, we update our eBook immediately. With a printed book we would have to try and sell out a printing before being able to make updates.
  • Higher Quality & Quantity of Information - We could never put as many beautiful and valuable pictures and graphics, nor as much useful written text in a printed guide. The printing costs would be prohibitive. A printed book would always have to be trimmed down for economic reasons, losing value for you. Fortunately an eBook has less constraints, and we can provide you with everything we want to, like the 90 color picture fish identification guide, let alone the other 250 color pictures.
  • Lower Cost - If we did offer this complete guide printed, it would have to cost much more because of the printing expenses and shipping costs for such a specific niche and low sales book.
  • Web-Like Navigation - Find a subject in the table of contents and just click to be taken to it. Search for a term and quickly navigate to it. There are also many web links included to our website for more information and other websites. This would not be possible with a printed book.
  • Less Travel Weight - If you are like us you are already hauling along a netbook or I-Pad or some other Apple I-Something, (not to mention snorkel gear) and not having to haul another bulky guide book with you is great, particularly with what airlines charge for extra luggage now.
  • More Support Of Our Work - We receive more of the finances directly with eBook sales, which in turn allows us to write more of these guides. If we had to print this guide and offer it through traditional book retailers we would make pennies on each sale.

How Does Buying An eBook Work?
eBooks are very popular now. The order process is easy and safe. Our shopping cart system is managed securely by E-junkie.com, and payments are processed securely through PayPal or Google Checkout. You can use a credit card and will be able to access your download link shortly (normally within minutes of payment), or if you use an eCheck you will receive your download link after your eCheck clears (3-9 days).
